Commitment to the Next Generation

Our environmental concept

Environmental protection and luxury gohand in hand

Whether it's the forest covered in morning dew, a refreshing bath in pure spring water, or one of our culinary creations, we cherish the many wonders that nature provides. This also comes with a responsibility to protect and preserve them.

Since 2009, our on-site combined heat and power plant has supplied most of our electricity and heating needs, helping us reduce our CO₂ emissions by more than 1,400 tonnes each year.

In our kitchens, we prioritize regional and seasonal ingredients and follow the philosophy of "from nose to tail, from root to flower." Out of respect for nature, we strive to make use of every part of the animal and every part of the plant whenever possible.

Through this mindful approach, we express our commitment to preserving the beauty of the Black Forest—not only in the landscape around us but also on every plate we serve—helping ensure that future generations can enjoy it as much as we do.

The Buschbrunnen Spring

The Tonbacher Buschbrunnen Spring is flowing again. The renovation has unlocked a valuable resource for the region, bringing a refreshing element of relaxation to the Traube Tonbach. Water is not only the origin of all life but also an essential foundation for health and well-being.

That’s why we are delighted that the high-quality Tonbacher Spring was reopened in 2016. Of course, you too can enjoy the crystal-clear spring water from the depths of the Black Forest. Throughout the entire hotel, including the wellness area, Tonbacher water flows from the taps. In harmony with an eco-friendly energy balance, our swimming pools are exclusively heated by the waste heat of the in-house ecological combined heat and power plant.

Our Green Roofs

In 2012, our Haus Kohlwald was completely renovated. Forty-one double and single rooms were transformed into 23 spacious apartments, each offering a unique view of nature. We also took a natural approach to the roof, creating a green roof and expanding the total area of our green roofs to over 2,000 square meters. These green roofs serve as a home and habitat for many different species of insects, which are vital to our ecosystem. Additionally, these roofs act as rainwater filters, thereby relieving the wastewater system.
